Ask Terrica

As a wellness professional, I am asked a myriad of questions on a daily basis… I get asked questions like: How do I lose weight? How do I get a flat stomach or six pack abs? How much water should I be drinking? How do vegetarians get protein? Etc., etc. I always answer, but usually ask a bunch of questions as well, as the original question is usually followed with a request for a plan of action. The questions asked are general, yet personal and individualized in nature. I plan to answer my most asked questions here and welcome more questions from my beloved (YOU!!).

How do I lose weight?

Diet and exercise… Diet and exercise will vary per individual needs and goals. There is a basic formula to help guide this plan though. Weight loss = Calories consumed < Calories burned. This means that you must exert more energy than you consume. If you feed your body according to your activity level, you should yield results. The opposite applies to gaining weight. Weight gain = Calories consumed > Calories burned. Make sense?...

Diet and exercise… Diet and exercise will vary per individual needs and goals. The same equations apply here as well. You must lose weight in order to achieve a flat stomach. If you are a healthy weight, certain exercises can target your midsection. Try the workouts here if this describes you...

For example, a person weighing 150 lbs should be drinking 75 oz of water daily; which is half their weight in ounces. Drink up, but be careful. There is such a thing as water poisoning. Don’t over do it… Too much of anything can be bad for your health, even water.

How do vegetarians get protein?

There are so many foods that contain protein. I know many vegans and vegetarians who are not deficient nor lacking protein in their diets. They get protein from foods like beans, grains, nuts, seeds, and leafy green vegetables. Don’t believe the myths. You can get sufficient protein from a meat-free diet...
